October 09, 2026 – PRESSADVANTAGE –
In October 2026, EMPACT Engineering expanded its support for electric utilities through a new partnership with JH Land Consultants, LLC, adding wildfire mitigation planning and independent expert services to a broader portfolio that already includes utility engineering services, geospatial work, vegetation management, joint-use engineering, and resilience planning. The collaboration combines the company’s engineering, operational, LiDAR, and geospatial capabilities with JH Land Consultants’ experience in utility vegetation management, forestry, wildfire planning, and field operations.
The partnership adds three areas of coordinated support for utilities: the EMPACT Vegetation Insights program, wildfire mitigation planning, and independent expert services. The vegetation program uses geospatial data and analysis to identify vegetation-related risks and help utilities prioritize mitigation work. The planning component focuses on documenting system-specific wildfire exposure and operational needs, while independent expert reviews can be provided when applicable independence requirements are met and neither organization has participated in developing the plan under review.
The October development extends a service model already focused on the design and field requirements of electric distribution systems. EMPACT Engineering supports overhead and underground line projects that can include line extensions, tie lines, voltage conversions, conductor upgrades, road widening work, self-supported pole designs, subdivision layouts, electric system studies, and pole replacement programs. The company also applies 3D modeling to pole and span analysis, including work associated with National Electrical Safety Code requirements and expected loading conditions.
Permitting remains another part of the company’s engineering work. Utility projects may require coordination with state transportation agencies, municipalities, counties, railroads, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, or the Federal Aviation Administration depending on the project location and scope. EMPACT Engineering prepares, submits, and tracks permitting documents while design and field activities progress, helping project teams maintain records across multiple approval processes.
Field data collection and project management connect those design activities with conditions on the ground. The company uses survey-grade collection methods and works with utility staking platforms to move information from field collection into design and final staking. Its utility engineering services also include clearance analysis, compliance reporting, system studies, inspections, construction coordination, bad-order pole management, double-wood remediation, and joint-use program management.
Storm response is another part of the company’s work with electric utilities. Following severe weather, EMPACT Engineering can support field collection and damage assessment through GIS, live maps, and dashboards that document changing system conditions. Those tools give project and restoration teams a shared view of field information as damage is assessed and work priorities are established.
The expanded wildfire work also fits with the company’s existing use of LiDAR and other geospatial datasets for engineering analysis. A single dataset can support evaluations of vegetation encroachment, conductor clearance, pole conditions, attachment conflicts, and existing system geometry. Using the same underlying field information across several disciplines can reduce the need for separate collection efforts and give engineering, vegetation, joint-use, and resilience teams a more consistent view of system conditions.
The partnership with JH Land Consultants adds wildfire planning and vegetation expertise to that broader engineering and data framework at a time when utilities are placing greater attention on resilience, asset condition, and risk documentation. It also gives the company another avenue for connecting geospatial information with planning decisions that affect field operations.
